International Paris
Open Championships
25-27 March 2005

The Pencak Silat Federation of the UK (PSF UK) sent
a team to take part in the 1st International Paris Open Championships, which
were organised and hosted by the
Association
France Pencak Silat (APSF) with the support of the Indonesian Embassy in
Paris.
The
competition categories consisted of Tanding (Silat Olahraga) and Jurus Tunggal
(standardised solo Jurus).
The
Championships were open to clubs, which meant that countries could
register more than one fighter per category. A total of some 100 competitors from
10 countries (Belgium,
France, Germany, Holland, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore and
the UK) took part.

The guests of honour attending the opening ceremony
included: Bapak Rachmat Gobel (Vice President, Ikatan Pencak Silat Indonesia
(IPSI), Bapak Rosano Barack, (Vice President, PERSILAT), His Excellency Bapak
A Silahali, Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to France,
Jean Marsaudon, Deputy Mayor of Savigny sur Orge and representatives from the
Malaysian High Commission, Bank Paribas and the Karate Magazine of France.
The
cultural show started with a multi-media presentation of the history and development of Pencak Silat in France. This was followed by Silat
demonstrations given by French students of Cimande Terumbu, Persaudaraan Setia
Hati, Pamur Kombinasi and a Silat team from Italy. The highlight of the show was an exhibition of the different styles of
Silat given by a group of pesilat from IPSI who had been invited to take part
in the French Open Championships.
