European Pencak Silat Championships
9-10 December
2005

The Pencak Silat Federation of the UK (PSF UK) sent a team to take part in the European Pencak Silat Championships, which were held in Paris from 9-10 December 2005.  The Championships were organised and hosted by the Association France Pencak Silat (AFPS) with the support of the European Pencak Silat Federation (EPSF).

The competition categories consisted of Sports (‘Tanding’), for men or women in different weight categories, and Artistic categories (for single, double or team of 3 men or women). The Championships were held under the supervision of the European Pencak Silat Federation (EPSF) and were open to European member countries only. A total of 57 competitors (pesilat) from 8 countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Russia, Spain, Switzerland and the UK) took part.

 


Presentation of Teams

 

The guests of honour attending the opening ceremony included Bapak Eddie Nalapraya, President of PERSILAT, and Mr George Fredriksz, President of EPSF. Bapak Rivai from the Indonesian Pencak Silat Federation performed the traditional opening of the arena and, the presented the ‘Keris Adat’ to the President of the European Federation (EPSF) for safe-keeping during the tournament

A French pesilat and a French Wasit Juri (referee) took the respective Oaths on behalf of all competitors and Wasit Juri. This was followed by welcome speeches given by Eric Chatelier, President of the French Pencak Silat Federation, George Fredriksz, President of the EPSF, and Bapak Eddie Nalapraya, President of PERSILAT. The championships were officially opened by Bapak Eddie Nalapraya striking a gong.
